It”s been nearly 70 years since the end of World War II, and few veterans from the war remain alive today. Eventually, we as a country will have to confront the fact that everyone who was part of the “Greatest Generation” will pass away. A morbid thought, I know, but at least they will be leaving behind mementos that will remind us of their brave impact in history.
Many of the soldiers who fought in World War II had extensive collections of Nazi war tokens. An Italian-German friendship pin.
The writing on this belt roughly translates to “God is with us.” (“Us” being the Nazis.)
An old M38 gas mask. If you ever come across one of these, don”t put it on. Many of these old gas masks have filters made from asbestos.
A well-preserved and valuable Nazi Luftwaffe helmet.
Tokens like these will help us to remember that our ancestors fought against the evil, calculating Nazi war machine all those years ago. Though they may leave us physically, what they accomplished on the warfront in Europe will never be forgotten.
