A Swiss Roll or Jelly Roll or Roll Cake or Cream Roll, or Swiss Log, is a type of sponge cake rolled with Jam, or Icing or Cream filling in other words, it is a cylindrical cake with a spiral cross section, made from a flat sponge cake spread with a filling such as jam or cream and rolled up.
When jam is used it is Jam roll. When jelly is used it is called Jelly roll and when cream is used it becomes Cream roll. It has different names in different countries.
Swiss roll needs just a handful of ingredients such as flour, sugar, eggs and jam. It can be made without eggs too. If followed the steps carefully, it is very simple to make.

STRAWBERRY APPLE JAM
1. Eggs – 4 No.
2. Refined flour – 7 tbsp
3. Powdered Sugar – 8 tbsp
4. Vanilla essence – 1/2 tsp
5. Strawberry Apple Jam – 8 tbsp
( or any Jam)
Use electric hand whisk if you own one. It just take 10 minutes to get eggs to creamy consistency.
1. Bowl & Whisk
Both should be well cleaned and dry. No traces of water or oil.
Through practice whisking of eggs by hand to creamy consistency can be made in 10 to 15 minutes.
2. Whisking of eggs
Very important step here. Whisk till creamy consistency. If not whisked properly the cake will break while rolling.
3. Bake time
Bake till the cake springs back, only 10 – 12 minutes. Do not bake more than the time mentioned as it may lead to hard cake and difficult to roll and may crack while rolling.
